Be The Church

Since this journey began a few weeks ago, I have been seeking God for the vision He has for us as a church. Proverbs 29:18 tells us that where there is no vision, the people perish. After all, this is VISION Heights Church. So it’s in this spirit I have been seeking God’s direction. As I began to pray and ask God to speak to me, I asked questions. What do you
want us to focus on? How many people should we set as a goal in attendance? What spiritual things should we be seeking?
So many questions, but hey, this is definitely all new territory for me.

It was just few days ago, I was praying and began to hear God speak to me. “I will give the increase.” I knew He was referring to the passage of scripture in 1 Cor. 3:6 where Paul says, “I have planted, Apollos watered but it is God who gave the increase.” I began to hear God give me the most simple direction or “vision” I have ever heard. It’s almost so simple, it seems silly. As a matter of fact, I chuckled to myself when I realized it was the very first message I preached as Pastor. “BE THE CHURCH.” Could it really be that simple. I feel like God simply said stop worrying about the details, just go be the church and I’ll give the increase. I’m still not sure what that looks like completely. I am still working out daily what it means to be the church, but Christ gave the best example in how He loved people. He said the greatest two commandments were to love God and love people.

So there it is. It’s not complicated. It’s not detailed. Just the simple idea to be the church. So we start now. What better way to begin than with Serve September to get us on track with what the church is all about. I pray that your thoughts always be, in every moment your presented, yes even in the tough ones. BE THE CHURCH.

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18
